The renowned astrophysicist Professor Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell will visit the University of Zurich as our Albert Einstein Ehrengast from 17th to 20th of March 2020. She inadvertently discovered pulsars as a graduate student in radio astronomy in Cambridge, opening up a new branch of astrophysics - work recognised by the award of a Nobel Prize to her supervisor.
Jocelyn Bell Burnell will hold a talk on Wednesday, 18 th of March, at 19:00 in the lecture hall Y04-G-30 on the UZH Campus Irchel. The talk is in English and is aimed at a general audience, including high school students. After the talk there is going to be an apero.
On Tuesday, 17 th of March, at 16:15 Jocelyn Bell Burnel will hold a talk in Y16-G-15. This talk is intended for a broad audience from the Faculty of Science.
The FPU is also organizing various events for students. There is a woodworking workshop on Wednesday, a city tour, a seminar, and on Friday, there is going to be a panel on the experiences of minorities in physics followed by a brunch. On Thursday there is a dinner for all members of the physics institute.
